your own car means... freedoooom! But also maintenance costs, traffic jams and hours of searching for parking in Brussels. Not to mention your carbon footprint or the expensive car insurance you pay as a young driver. Fortunately, shared cars are gaining in popularity! For example, the residents of Upliving The Brewery in Brussels share an electric car. "Your own car can move with you to Upliving, but it doesn't have to!", says Upliving coach Jasper Paulissen, who's a big fan of the Upliving shared car.
#1 SAVE YOURSELF THE EXTRA COST
The Upliving shared car of The Brewery is an Opel Corsa-e. As a private person, you easily pay €30,000 for this 100% electric car. With a shared car, you already save this purchase cost."
#2 GO FOR FREEDOM
With a car you can seemingly go wherever you want. Except when you go into town. Because there are limited parking spaces and the risk of damage is high in Brussels. My own car gave me more headaches than joy, so I got rid of it. In the city, a shared scooter or bike or the metro gives me more freedom."
#3 NO MORE EXPENSES
In line with our other sharing facilities, such as shared washing machines or shared bikes, Upliving also offers parking spaces with charging stations for residents and neighbours with their own cars or company cars. Residents pay 60 euros, externals 75 euros. If you want to avoid the cost of a parking garage altogether, then as a resident you should opt for the Upliving shared car. You then pay € 7 per hour user fee and may drive unlimited kilometers. In addition, the Upliving charge card gives you free access to most charging stations. We want to encourage especially short distances, so that as many people as possible can use it."
#4 YOU DON'T PAY INSURANCE
"Car insurance for young drivers is massively expensive. With a shared car, you get around that. The Upliving shared car is comprehensive insurance. If you do have something on, you pay a maximum of 750 euros."
#5 MORE SUSTAINABLE DRIVING FUN!
You have more and greener driving pleasure "Sharing a car is in any case more sustainable than your own car. If it is an e-car, then certainly. And it's fun too! An electric car accelerates smoothly, makes no noise and doesn't smell. If in time there are fewer emissions in the city, it will be more pleasant to stay there. We are happy to contribute to that."
ARE THERE ANY DRAWBACKS?....
"Pedestrians don't hear electric cars coming all that well, as a first time driver of an electric car ...it's best to take that into account. And you have to prepare yourself a little better if you're embarking on a longer trip with an electric car. The app A Better Route Planner, or APRP for short, helps you find the most efficient route and charging points. Are you less prepared? Then the app LastMileSolutions shows you nearby charging stations."
